Rehome Your Pet
At the Cedar Valley Humane Society we strive to find the appropriate placement for healthy and treatable animals in our care. We are also committed to helping pet owners keep their pets with their families whenever possible. We understand that sometimes that is not an option and the decision to surrender is not an easy one, so we aim to make this process seamless.
Alternatives to Surrendering Your Pet
Surrendering your pet can be an incredibly difficult decision. The Cedar Valley Humane Society may be able to help you keep your pet at home. Please review the following resources before surrendering your pet.
Make an Appointment to Surrender Your Pet
Pet Surrenders are an appointment only service.
Complete the Surrender Request Form, a staff member will reach out within three to five business days to discuss the request.
What to expect at the appointment. When arriving for your appointment please check in with the front desk prior to bringing your animal into the building. Intake staff will assist with collecting all information pertaining to your pet, we ask that all veterinary and vaccination records are sent prior or brought in at the time of the appointment. Please keep dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier.
Final Steps. Once we have gathered information about your pet and the animal evaluation has been completed, we will discuss the next steps.
Surrender Fees
While the needs of each animal in our care differ, it costs an average of more than $400 to care for one animal until he/she finds a forever home. While our surrender fees likely won’t cover the full cost of care for your pet, they will help provide us the necessary resources to keep your pet safe and healthy while we search for a new, loving family.
Cedar Rapids – $100
Unincorporated Linn County – $50
Unincorporated Benton County – $50
Contracted municipalities in Linn, Johnson, and Benton Counties – $50
