Humane Educator

Status:  Volunteer
Reports to:  Shelter Operations Manager
Animal Involvement:  Optional

Representative Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of those the Humane Educator will be expected to undertake and carry out.

  • Give presentations at locations in the community and/or presentations with tours at the CVHS;
  • Occasionally take a pre-approved animal to presentations.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required.

  • Belief in the values and objectives of humane education;
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and be able to interact well with children;
  • Ability to think on his/her feet and answer questions from an audience;
  • Willingness to read and become familiar with CVHS humane education materials;
  • Completion of volunteer orientation;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to be a team player and work with a variety of people;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule;
  • Affection for animals, concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace;
  • A commitment to treat people and animals with respect; contribute to effective teamwork; promote cooperation; and foster public relations beneficial to the CVHS.
