Animal Care Assistant

Status:  Volunteer
Reports to:  Shelter Operations Manager
Animal Involvement:  Yes

Representative Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of those the Animal Care Assistant will be expected to undertake and carry out:

• Assist staff with animal care including feeding, cleaning, and other animal care tasks
• Talk to, pet, groom, and play with animals from the adoption areas.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required:

• Ability to relate well with animals and handle them safely;
• Completion of volunteer orientation;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Enthusiasm and the ability to be a team player and work with a variety of people;
• Strong work ethic and ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule;
• Affection for animals, concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace;
• A commitment to treat people and animals with respect; contribute to effective teamwork; promote cooperation; and foster public relations beneficial to the CVHS.
