Chloe (now Dazie) Captures Hearts
My husband and I were looking to adopt a Dachshund. His parents had always had Dachshunds, and he is quite partial to and knowledgeable about the breed.
When five-week-old Chloe, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, arrived at the Cedar Continue Reading »
Jinny (now Jill) is a Perfect Match!
We adopted Jill in January, 2011, when she was just eight weeks old. Both Jim and I have had dogs we have loved before, but neither of us had any idea we could be so in love with this one. Jill is a Jack Russell Terrier, and this breed needs a special type of owner and does much better if it has room to get lots of exercise. We have put in an invisible fence, so Jill has over an acre in the woods to enjoy.
If there is one thing I would Continue Reading »
Pixie Relaxes in Her New Home
I adopted my dog, Pixie, from Cedar Valley Humane Society! I absolutely love her! Pixie was a great selection, and the Cedar Valley Humane Society took their time (which I can appreciate) making sure that Pixie was the right fit for me! She was a great addition to Continue Reading »
Oreo (now Jackson) Has Plenty of Room and Playmates!
I just finished reading about Rosie, and I thought I send you an update on Oreo (now renamed Jackson). He also was part of the group of 19 rescued Dachshunds.
He is the center of my universe! I have always been an animal lover, but Continue Reading »
A Day in the Life of the Golden Girls
Ketchup and Mustard are now known as the Golden Girls. Adopter Karla Z sent us this fun photo montage to show us a typical “day in the life” of Nela and Nala. Between gazing longingly out the window, snuggling in for a catnap, and snooping through open Continue Reading »
Bear Happily Romps in his Playground
Bear has been a new friend of the family for almost three weeks and he is amazing! He is sociable, but not too needy! I feel so lucky to have him! Friends and family have commented on what a well-mannered dog he is–this is so true! Bear loves to greet people and make sure he gets enough petting. Our yard is fenced, and it has become his playground. He loves to run and chase his orange ball and bark at the nearby horses. He is so happy! I am amazed he didn’t get adopted early in his stay at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I am so lucky to have him; he has truly Continue Reading »

Cricket and Fidget Mend Broken Hearts
My husband and I never thought we would be cat lovers, but here we are!
Snickers, our beloved Cocker Spaniel, died this spring at the age of 15 1/2. Our hearts were broken, and my tears Continue Reading »
Pearl (now Rosie) Learns about Being Part of a Family
Our Rosie (formerly known as Pearl) was one of the 19 Dachshunds given up by a former breeder, and I adopted her because she needed someone who could work with her “handicap.” Rosie is severely vision impaired, but she is not blind. She functions quite well with her limitations. Continue Reading »

We would like to give you an update on Mango and Ryan (renamed Chang) who we adopted in the middle of March. They are enjoying their new home and have brought us much happiness.

Manny (now Pippin) Finds Friends in the Bat Cave
I thought it would be nice to update you on the adorable kitty Manny that I adopted. I decided to rename him Pippin (from Lord of the Rings), although my roommates sometimes call him Bruce; apparently, he looks like Batman.
He is the most friendly and talkative cat I’ve ever met. He has a surprisingly deep meow, so we refer to it as his Batman voice. He’s already had two baths since I adopted him, and he took it like a man, never scratching or Continue Reading »
Brick (now Melvin) Gains Confidence
I wanted a companion for our cat, Lilly. Brick (now Melvin) was at the shelter for seven months, spending 70% of his life in a cage. In November, I walked by to look at another kitty, and Melvin reached out, grabbed my arm and my heart!
We took our time introducing Lilly to Melvin. (We never thought Lilly would stop hissing Continue Reading »
Spanky (now Walter) Finds the Perfect Home
Thank you Cedar Valley Humane Society! You excel at matchmaking, since you found the perfect companion for me and my 13-year-old Labrador retriever, Walker.
I had been looking for another four-legged family member after losing my 14-and-a-half-year-old Lab, Wiley, last year to complications from old age. I received a phone call Continue Reading »
Hobo, Homeless No More!
I adopted Hobo October 14, 2010. He had been at the Cedar Valley Humane Society since February 2010.
Hobo hid for about two weeks under the shelves in “his room.” Now he comes downstairs any time during the day. The other night he even came into my bedroom and jumped on the bed to lay with me. Hobo has the greatest personality ever, never been aggressive. I have never even heard him growl or hiss. Continue Reading »
Val (now Hayden) is Pampered Pooch
I would love to thank Sarah from the Cedar Valley Humane Society who took Hayden into her home and rehabilitated her until she found her FOREVER home with us.
Hayden was left behind in a crate in the middle of July with little food and NO water when her previous owners were evicted. The little scrapper that she is…she barked and barked until a neighbor heard her and called the authorities. She was scared, dehydrated, and matted Continue Reading »
Antoinette (now Miss Kitty) Finds True Love in Her New Home
I wanted to give you an update on Antoinette (or Miss Kitty as we call her). First of all, I want to thank you so much for her. My only regret is that I did not “find” her when she was a kitten.
I don’t know what she has endured Continue Reading »
Beaker and Gonzo, Snugglebuddies Forever!
We could not be happier with Beaker and Gonzo! They are so sweet and cuddly. Gonzo’s favorite thing to do is wrap himself around your neck, and if you have a ponytail in, that’s even better as he will play and try to eat it. He Continue Reading »
Friendship is Forever
We have the Cedar Valley Humane Society to thank for our four wonderful kitties–Sophie, Milo, Jade, and Otis. We’ve had Jade and Sophie for 15 years now! (Jade is about 20 years old, if they guessed correctly at her age when we Continue Reading »

Looks like a sleepy day at the Kahl house! Pewter the cat was caught napping with his two pals in November. Simba, the Shitzu, was adopted from Continue Reading »
