How Mandy Chose Her New Family
It was February 2005 when I decided my male cat, Bud, needed a feline companion. I went to the Cedar Valley Humane Society to meet the kitties. I spent about an hour and a half in the kitty room while other people came, picked out a cat and left. This is a big decision that I didn’t want to rush as I like to get a feel for their personalities. I talked to the kitties and brought them out to get a closer look. When I put them back in their cages, they turned around to eat or wash, just generally ignoring Continue Reading »

Dear wonderful people who took care of us:
We asked if we could borrow the family computer to give you a look into our wonderful new lives! They said we could, as long as we didn’t clog the keyboard with our beautiful long hair… so here we go!
We’ve only been here just over a week, and we are already making ourselves at home! We always use Continue Reading »

Abigail and Olliver Complete the Family

Beautiful, Eight-Year-Old FiFi Makes Loving Pet
FiFi joined my household last fall. She had been surrendered by her elderly owner who could no longer care for her. FiFi had been at the Cedar Valley Humane Society for many months. Why? Was it because she was eight years old? As you can see by her picture, she is one beautiful girl, so I don’t Continue Reading »

Tanner “Writes” to Send Christmas Tidings
Hi! Well, Mom is writing Christmas cards and notes so I asked if I could write you. She is letting me as long as I don’t eat the pen again. She had trouble getting all the ink out of me and the carpet before. Oops.
Let’s see. I have a big yard to run in, and I do. My food dish is never empty. That might be why I weigh 20 pounds. (I did get the ham bone at Thanksgiving.) My water dish is always full and changed three Continue Reading »

From the Diary of Polly A-Z
Mornings start off waking up with Dad and going for a walk…the big light in the sky is usually just coming up. Then Dad feeds me, and I see him off to work. After that I sneak back upstairs and snuggle with Mom for an hour or so.
When we get up again, Mom takes me on a run. We LOVE to run together, but Mom is a little slow. Then Mom eats and works a little, while I lay on the couch. Then Mom calls me, and we go Continue Reading »
Zoe, Showered with Love
We adopted Zoe on July 1, 2011. Ten-year-old Payton researched Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and did a Google search to find Zoe at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Zoe now lives with us in DeWitt, Iowa. Zoe shares her home with a 12-year-old dog named Bandit, an 18-year-old cat named Simba, and a three-year-old cat named Herky. Zoe loves to take walks in her neighborhood and play with the family. She will do most anything for a treat! Continue Reading »
Richy (and Richard’s Memory) Still Going Strong
Richy was adopted from the Cedar Valley Humane Society in the fall of 2003. I had recently lost a favorite cat and was quite disheartened.
