Lexi Snuggles with Her Stuffed Friend
I’ve been meaning to write a cat tale about our yellow tabby, Lexi, who we adopted from the Cedar Valley Humane Society in May of 2005.
We’d been without an Continue Reading »
Ellary Completes Puppy Kindergarten
We wanted to take this opportunity to send a picture of our happy family and tell you about how Ellary (formerly Gina) is doing. We adopted Ellary from your shelter in August 2011. Ironically, I also adopted my other dog, Eli (formerly Sparky), from your shelter in June 2001. Eli is turning 11 this year. Ellary is doing great! She is a very happy, affectionate, and well-behaved puppy. We already Continue Reading »

Zeus is a Chief Source of Happiness for Family
Happy Holidays, Cedar Valley Humane Society!
Our family is very excited for the season and all the joy it brings. Zeus, in particular, is one of the chief sources of happiness that we currently have. He is a continuous supply of love, affection and exuberance in our lives and we couldn’t imagine life without him. Continue Reading »
Happy is Happy in Minneapolis
We just wanted to give you an update on Happy, the Brittany Spaniel. He is doing so well and is an awesome addition to the family. Thanks so much for helping us find our new family member. We have recently moved to Minneapolis, and Happy is quite happy, as you can see!
Sincerely,

Tanner “Writes” to Send Christmas Tidings
Hi! Well, Mom is writing Christmas cards and notes so I asked if I could write you. She is letting me as long as I don’t eat the pen again. She had trouble getting all the ink out of me and the carpet before. Oops.
Let’s see. I have a big yard to run in, and I do. My food dish is never empty. That might be why I weigh 20 pounds. (I did get the ham bone at Thanksgiving.) My water dish is always full and changed three Continue Reading »
Beauty (now Kyla Jay) “Writes” to Say Thanks

Gizmo (now Sassy) Helps Heal Family
My son and I are wondering, “Who rescued who?”
Gizmo (now named Sassy…by my son, who did not care that the cat was a boy!) is the most wonderful gift we could’ve given ourselves. We call Continue Reading »
Mango and Jasper Act Like Brothers
I adopted Mango and Jasper at the beginning of October this year. They have quickly become my best friends, cuddle buddies, and the highlight of my day! To wake up every morning to see them there to greet me is the greatest feeling! Continue Reading »
From the Diary of Polly A-Z
Mornings start off waking up with Dad and going for a walk…the big light in the sky is usually just coming up. Then Dad feeds me, and I see him off to work. After that I sneak back upstairs and snuggle with Mom for an hour or so.
When we get up again, Mom takes me on a run. We LOVE to run together, but Mom is a little slow. Then Mom eats and works a little, while I lay on the couch. Then Mom calls me, and we go Continue Reading »
Zoe, Showered with Love
We adopted Zoe on July 1, 2011. Ten-year-old Payton researched Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and did a Google search to find Zoe at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. Zoe now lives with us in DeWitt, Iowa. Zoe shares her home with a 12-year-old dog named Bandit, an 18-year-old cat named Simba, and a three-year-old cat named Herky. Zoe loves to take walks in her neighborhood and play with the family. She will do most anything for a treat! Continue Reading »
Richy (and Richard’s Memory) Still Going Strong
Richy was adopted from the Cedar Valley Humane Society in the fall of 2003. I had recently lost a favorite cat and was quite disheartened. My ailing father, in his last months, insisted I get another pet. We both came to the Cedar Valley Humane Society and found this wonderful, calm, yet Continue Reading »
Prissy (now Olive) Settles in Nicely
I wanted to let you know how excited we were to pick up Olive (Prissy)! She has not disappointed! She plays and plays and purrs and purrs! We are so happy to have her in our family. She’s perfect…purrrfect! She had a perfect check-up at the vet and has settled nicely into her new home. My youngest son has drawn a picture of our Continue Reading »
Chloe (now Dazie) Captures Hearts
My husband and I were looking to adopt a Dachshund. His parents had always had Dachshunds, and he is quite partial to and knowledgeable about the breed.
When five-week-old Chloe, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, arrived at the Cedar Continue Reading »
Jinny (now Jill) is a Perfect Match!
We adopted Jill in January, 2011, when she was just eight weeks old. Both Jim and I have had dogs we have loved before, but neither of us had any idea we could be so in love with this one. Jill is a Jack Russell Terrier, and this breed needs a special type of owner and does much better if it has room to get lots of exercise. We have put in an invisible fence, so Jill has over an acre in the woods to enjoy.
If there is one thing I would Continue Reading »
Pixie Relaxes in Her New Home
I adopted my dog, Pixie, from Cedar Valley Humane Society! I absolutely love her! Pixie was a great selection, and the Cedar Valley Humane Society took their time (which I can appreciate) making sure that Pixie was the right fit for me! She was a great addition to Continue Reading »
Oreo (now Jackson) Has Plenty of Room and Playmates!
I just finished reading about Rosie, and I thought I send you an update on Oreo (now renamed Jackson). He also was part of the group of 19 rescued Dachshunds.
He is the center of my universe! I have always been an animal lover, but Continue Reading »
A Day in the Life of the Golden Girls
Ketchup and Mustard are now known as the Golden Girls. Adopter Karla Z sent us this fun photo montage to show us a typical “day in the life” of Nela and Nala. Between gazing longingly out the window, snuggling in for a catnap, and snooping through open Continue Reading »
Bear Happily Romps in his Playground
Bear has been a new friend of the family for almost three weeks and he is amazing! He is sociable, but not too needy! I feel so lucky to have him! Friends and family have commented on what a well-mannered dog he is–this is so true! Bear loves to greet people and make sure he gets enough petting. Our yard is fenced, and it has become his playground. He loves to run and chase his orange ball and bark at the nearby horses. He is so happy! I am amazed he didn’t get adopted early in his stay at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. I am so lucky to have him; he has truly Continue Reading »
